Steps to make Orange Chicken:
- Place the chicken pieces in a mixing bowl and marinate with 1ts salt,1tb black pepper and a beaten egg
- Heat enough oil for deep frying/shallow frying in a wok/non stick pan
- Combine 2tb cornflour and 4tb all purpose flour in a bowl and add it to the chicken
- Coat the chicken well with the flour mix
- Deep/shallow fry in batches till both sides are slightly brown and crisp (shallow frying may take more time for this process)
- Rest the fried chicken aside
- Make a thin paste of 2tb cornflour and water
- Heat sesame oil in a wok
- Add ger garlic paste Sauté for 2-3 minutes on medium heat
- Add orange juice,zest,sugar and salt. Mix well
- Add soy sauce and fried chicken
- Cook on Low heat till the gravy thickens to the desired consistency
- Take off heat and garnish with white sesame seeds and spring onion greens
- Serve hot with plain rice and sautéed/grilled veggies
- Tip: If shallow frying the chicken, make sure you do the same on medium-Low heat only.it may be time consuming, but the chicken needs to cook well.
